WHO IS JINSU
Biography
I'm a Korean-Indian born in New York and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. I'm a thinker and am getting better at executing my ideas every day. Some days I feel like the whole world needs to change, and on others, I'm focused on my own world, but of course, they belong to one another.
I'm a lover of photography, words, maps that tell stories, and data that drives change.
I'm currently based in Oakland, CA.
B.A. Data Science (Social Welfare, Health and Poverty) @ UC Berkeley
MSc. Climate Change @ King's College London
WHAT DO I CREATE
My Work
The Nature Conservancy
My work at the Nature Conservancy's Jack and Laura Dangermond Preserve centers around building new tools to understand the environmental variable most fundamental to our existence, freshwater. I'm learning an incredible amount about hydrology, science communication, and storytelling while building a Digital Twin for Freshwater.
I am a technical advisor for several mangrove mapping and remote sensing projects in the Western Indian Ocean (Kenya and Tanzania).
Photography
Photography is a hobby but one that is driven by a deep love for memory. I don't do much with my images, but you can view some of them here. I've also made prints of my images before and would be happy to do so again.
Writing
I'd like to write more. I want to bring together my photography, writing, data visualization, and map-making to tell stories that bring people to nature.
